Radio interference
Just got my 2013 Limited. In the tour pack is a power port. I plugged in my galaxy phone to charge and had really bad static on my radio. Couldnt get any station until I unplugged my phone. Anyone know any tricks to stop this? When I was a trucker, I used a 10 inch section of coax cable along the power side of my CB as a noise filter. I dont know if this will work on a power port to charge the phone. Suggestion? Help?
Some things to check;
Pull the liner out of the tour pack and check that the antenna connections are tight.
Also check that the grounds are clean and tight, both the antenna and the power point.
Check that the power point hot wire is tight as well.
Follow the power point wires and make sure the other ends are clean and tight, especially the ground.
Watch for wire damage as well.
While you're following those wires also follow the antenn wirelooking for worn or pinched areas.
If you have a removable tour pac check those connections as well.
Pull the outer faring and check all radio grounds and the antenna connection as well.
If you do all that and have no improvement or don't find anything then you can try wrapping the power point wire in foil tape and grounding the foil.
Also, there used to be devices that hooked to the radio power line for cars that eliminated/reduced rf noise from stuff like spark pulg wires.
Good luck.
