Default Tour Pack Question? EDITED

I started to remove my tour pack on my 03 Ultra today just to see how it will feel without it. I thought that the radio would at least work with the CD player or MP3 Player since the Fm attn. was disconnected. But I found out when I disconnected the CB attn. the radio lost all power. Any done this before or know how I can get this to work?

Thanks

That happened to me once with a car stereo. It turned out the radio had a bad ground wire connection and was getting its ground through the antenna ground (external part of the coaxial antenna cable).
I have a classic without the CB but my radio/CD player works with the radio antenna disconnected. There is alot of talk about broken brackets inside the fairing. Could be it lost its ground connection inside the fairing.

Any idea how hard it is to take off front fairing to trace down the ground wire for the radio?

the ultra uses the box under the tour pack to power up things for the radio, it is an amp, you would need to get things re-routed to make them work. I forget how to do this, but should be simple as the box is just and add-on feature.

I did not see a box in or under the tour pack but I disconnected each wire harness in the tour pack one at a time and the only one to cut power to the radio was the CB atttn.

Ok maybe that was just on the added amp kits them? the fair is easily removed by taking the 3 screws out of the windsheild and then the 5 on the sides of the fairing, you are going to need a T-25 screw driver to get them out. But i think there is something else going on? The radio shouldn't be getting its ground from the cb antenna? I'll loook in the service manual and see what I can figure out.

When looking at the tour pack from the rear the attn. on the right is the one which is causing the radio to lose power when it is diconnected. I still cant figure why a attn. would cause the power to be lost once unplugged.

I agree with Red E Glide, You lost your ground. I have an 05 Ultra with the CB disconnected works fine.

The fairing screws are T27 not T25. When I have time I will look in my 05 shop manual for the ground wire color at the radio connector. 03 and 05 should be the same.
