Default wiring for a trailer

Installed my hitch yesterday and would like some input on wiring for a trailer. DOs and DON'Ts, helpful hints etc.

THANKS,

I had to get a Hoppy's converter for my 02 and the 05 I now have, it converted the 5 wire system on the Harley down to the four wire system for the trailer. Easy install, as long as you get the plug harness that goes between your brake light plug under the seat. This plug comes with pigtails that you just add your 4 trailer wires too. Simple, neat and works fine.

PS,,I got the converter locally from a trailer place, the pigtail harness with the Harley plugs came from Hitch Doc.

What about an "isolator" ? It sells for about $49 and is supposed to protect the electrical system on the bike if something with the trailer goes crazy.

Yes indeed,,,thats what the Hoppy is, an isolater. I was happy with mine, been on two bikes for the past three years. I think it finally gave up on me though and caused some weird electrical problems. All was well after I unplugged it. I'll buy another for sure though. It makes wiring the trailer simple.

J&P cycles has a connector that snaps between the front and rear harness under the the seat that I used then I got another wire weatherstriping for under the fender and put the wires in that to the hitch,
Works great
