to give a little insight of what I am experiancing here is the deal. I bought my 06 SG last year and put Rinehart True duels on, PCIII and SE air filter kit on. I set the PCIII with the recommended setting from power commander. The first long trip was to a buddy who lives outside Atlanta. One night we rode down town and was in stop and go traffic and the bike started running hot and wanted to cut off, after we got out of all the traffic and was on the way back the bike never ran just right but the next morning it was back to its old self.
For Christmas my wife gave me the money to have it put on the dyno and have a custom map made for it and I did this at Tilley's HD in Statesville. No problems since but was never in moderate heat and stop and go traffic till this past week in Myrtle Beach. The bike started acting just like it did in Atlanta in the stop and go traffic, wanting to cut off and it just didn't sound right.
Is this just something I have to live with or is something wrong? I do know I wasnt the only one experiancing the same problem because I pulled up next to a guy on a new 07 softail asking me if I was over heating, at the time I wasn't but about 20 min's later I was.
Sounds like the problem i had when i put my PCIII on last week. I didn't set the throttle position after i putthe PCIIIon the bike. Man did it get hot. First thing i would check is that your throttle is reading 0% on idle when the bike is warm/heated up. Hookthe PCIIIup to the PC, open up the software, fire it up,and check the throttle position. Taterdog had a problem with his PCIII and throttle position. He sent it back and they replaced his. Not sure if this is your problem but it's a good place to start.
EDIT: I forgot to mention what i saw when i did mine. At idle 0% throttle it was showing 6% throttle when hooked up to the PC. Man that just throws your MAP all out of whack. []
Bryan, do you know if rpms make a difference when setting the 0 throttle position or do you just make sure the throttle is idle? Just wondering.
To set the 0% throttle for the PCIII it's done on idle with the motor hot. It also shows what your idle RPM is. You pull up the "set throttle" programand click on reset then ok. I also set my 100% throttle position while i was doing the 0% for that one you twist the throttle wide open. Not to worry, the motor doesn't rev too high when setting the 100% throttle position. Here's a link to the Tutorial #10 setting throttle position. http://www.powercommander.com/powerc...downloads.aspx
Do you have any idea what temp the bike was running when this happened? I have a 2006 with close to the same set up and have not had any problems. I may not have had the same amount of stop & go traffic as you though. I have never seen my temp go above 220 deg.
