I have a 2016 Ultra Limited with Vance and Hines Monster Rounds slip-ons with stock air filter. I am experiencing that dreaded heat on the right side and would like to remove the cat. Will I have to do anything else? I'm concerned that the pipes may discolor or it may run to rich. Thanks!
you will likely run lean due to the increased air flow through the motor ( the 2014+ air cleaner flows more than the previous air cleaners).
so look into tuning compensation
it'll also be noisier
and you will pick up 7 to 10 horsepower
and it'll be hot, sitting on a motor is hot. the best defense is thick boots and jeans- if you keep your thighs to the tanks you will get better flow of the hot air past your legs.
I didn't have to do anything special on my 14 Limited. I removed the cat and run Rineharts on the stock tune. The ECM will compensate for the difference.

You best add a tuner when you ditch the cats. You can do without one with slip ons only but even that's questionable considering how lean these are bone stock.
The bike will not run any leaner without the cat. As a matter of fact, it will probably run a little richer without the cat. The O2 sensors will detect the higher flow, read it like a lean condition and richen the fuel. The ECM will compensate for the increase in air flow. They are not like a carburetor. Until you get outside of the ECM limits you are good.
Not that doing a tuner wouldn't increase the overall performance. A tuner will help not only help a modified bike, but will help even a bone stock one.
If the heat from the cat don't discolor your shields. Gutting it will reduce the chance. Mine is decatted. No issues except my leg is cooler. I have a FP3 on mine. I had it in when the bike was bone stock. And yes. It will likely run richer. Not leaner as was said.
I've a '15 Ltd with a decat stock header (did it because of the heat) and those Monster Rounds. Also did the FP3 and I will say to me it made the most difference (maybe you don't "need" it but...).
So my observations were that the heat felt on the right leg was not reduced as much as I thought it would be by decating the header (I think the richer tune from the FP3 may have made a more noticeable change in reducing heat actually). The other thing I noticed was that the combo of the decat and those slip-ons was just too loud for long tour days (does sound nice though). I ended up putting Hard Kore Quiet Baffles on and these things REALLY made a big difference in noise levels at idle and cruise (still a nice bark when under throttle though). So not sure what you will think of the noise levels after doing the header decat and those V&H Monster Rounds but if you also find them too loud this is a good solution (or was for me anyway).
