I wonder if that's a common problem. Guy I was riding with last year had the same thing happen. Said the dealer changed his fuel pump at 20K service just before the ride.
I asked them too. My AAA plan covered up to 360km. Edmonton has 2 dealers so I figured it a part was needed and one dealer didn't have it they might be able to get it from the other. Plus I asked the tow truck driver which he would prefer to take me too. He's works on commission so the long tow was better for him. Finally, Edmonton was the planned stop for the day and if the bike was going to be down waiting for parts I would rather spend a day or two in Edmonton than Red Deer. Nothing against Red Deer but Edmonton is a much larger city.
OK, that makes sense.
For the record, I would have stopped for ya, enjoy the rest of your trip!
I couldn't do 3,800 miles in my car. Sounds like a heck of a trip
Maybe not in a car but I'm sure you could do it on your bike. Just takes desire and a little planning. For the last 10 years I've taken off on Labor day and done a 4K to 5K ride over 10 to 12 days, usually at least 5K. Last year I rode from Northwest Washington State to Wisconsin to see the Harley museum. This year I had planned a route that would get me to hit all 48 states and DC over 18 days, just under 9K miles. However life got in the way and I have to be back home by the 15th so that trip was out for this year. Hope to do it next year. I wanted to do it this year in celebration of my 70th birthday.

Damn, 70th? Dos cojones grandes.
I have noticed that most riders doing miles have grey in their beards (and spend too much on their bikes to afford trailers?). I love meeting up with blokes who have a love for riding and have some amazing stories to tell, a common theme seems to be that the more testing the ride the better the memories and the telling of the story. Shame you experienced the indifference of a few when my experience, at least here in New Zealand, is the opposite and I hope for you this will remain an isolated experience. Cheers bud
Glad to see back up,broke down once no cell service. At least 75 Harley's went by without anyone stopping. Finally a BMW rider stopped, rode 10 miles to call AAA for me, and road all the way back to tell me they're on there way. Guy wouldn't take a dime. Riders of today aren't what they used to be.
Was broken down on the side of the road between Homestead & Key Largo (Florida Keys) in a 100 degree heat. Well over an hour with the seat off and over (estimated) 150 HD's drove by. My seat was off the bike as it was battery related. 4 guys with (3) rented, one FL resident stopped by. Gave me a much needed cold water & push started my bike which fired right up. Lights off (recommend this modification) with ignition on I was able to ride to the marina next to the Caribbean Club where they let me charge my battery. Rode home without lights in the afternoon. The plug came loose between the voltage regulator rectifier & stater. Ya, things have changed since the 60's in the Harley world.
