This really sucks
So this morning I left Lethbridge, AB at 7:10. Clear and sunny and a balmy 3 degrees (37 to us). Nice ride to Calgary. Stopped in Calgary for gas. 150 km North of Calgary, cruising north on highway 2 at a smooth 115 (that's 70 mph for us yanks) when the engine died. Just quit. No popping, backfire, nothing. Just dead. I carry a troubleshooting sheet with me so I pulled the error codes from the ECM. Two codes 1)No combustion front cylinder 2) No combustion rear cylinder. NO KIDDING, thank you very much. Without any other codes I figured it had to be fuel related, not electrical. Thought it might be a bad fuel pump. Got out the best tool in my toolkit, my AAA card and made the call. Took about 10 minutes to get connected from AAA Washington to AAA Alberta. They said they would make it a priority call because I was sitting on the side of the highway and that isnt safe. Twenty minutes later a tow truck was on site. Tow truck driver was awesome. Really knew what he was doing. Nice 160 km tow to Heritage Harley in Edmonton. I called them when we were on the way to let them know I was coming. Didnt know if I would get there before they closed. Clint at Heritage said not to worry, he and a mechanic would hang around until I got there. We actually got there at 3:30 (they close at 5). I told them what I knew and they took the bike right in to the service area. Checked the fuel pump and it was OK but no gas was getting to the engine. Long story short, the line out of the fuel pump (inside the tank) came off. Took them an hour and a half total to diagnose and fix it. The only downside to this is they dont know why it came off. Line and connectors are in good shape. I changed the fuel filter which is attached to the fuel pump about 8000 miles ago. Maybe I knocked the line loose and it finally came off. Hope thats the case and it doesnt come off again. I've still got a long way to go. For those of you that live in Edmonton, I obviously highly recommend Heritage Harley and Clint as well as Jimmy at Key towing out of Red Deer.
On a side note. Helmet on the ground, side covers off, on my knees trying to see if any connectors were loose. Half a dozen Harleys go by. One rider actually waved to me as he went by. None stopped.
Continuing my trip tomorrow. Wish me luck
Op I am glad to hear you got her fixed , enjoy the rest of your trip.
