Ok - a bit of background. My first HD was a 2002 Ultra that I have ridden for the last 5 years. I did a Stage 1 and true dual crossover on that bike and heat was never an issue. On Memorial Day I totaled it and also broke my collar and shoulder. During the recovery period I bought a new to me 2010 TC 96 Ultra.
While I was still laid up I added a decatted head pipe and the rest of the stage one goodies - finished up that work last weekend. Yesterday was the first day I was cleared to ride again so out on the new bike! I really noticed the increase in power, seemed more stable and also realized I missed my custom MCC modded seat.
The big thing I noticed was the heat! Even with the de-catted pipe. I mean - I have read about how hot some guys are getting on the right leg but did not expect how hot. After sitting at a light the football is almost too hot to touch - so the stupid question-----even with the decatted pipe and tuner is this much heat still normal?
When you say football if that means the air cleaner cover, then you are correct, that should not be hot, possibly warm but not hot. My guess is the air filter is dirty or clogged, I bet if you clean it she will cool down. I had a sportster do that a couple years ago, cleaned the filter and it instantly cooled down.
Motors were getting bigger and hotter every few years that's why wet head came into play and now M8 with 4 valves to cool things off.Not sure if it's stock on that year model but oil cooler will help a lot at least it did on our 07 and 08 UCs. And I think you will get used to it after a while since you been off the bike for a while.
