Default Rocker Box & Cover - new or Powdercoat?

I have a black 2002 Road King, and the bike is in pretty good condition, but has some flaws.

The main issue is on the Rocker Box, and Rocker Box covers- -there are some bubbles under the chrome. The only other spot is the Trans top cover - that has a big bubble dead center on the top.

Was planning on doing some reconditioning over winter....and I'm not sure what way to go. I like nice chrome, but I saw a bike this past year that the owner had powder coated most of the chrome on the bike black, and only left the pushrod covers, and a couple of small pieces here and there chrome, and had the edges of the fins polished...it looked awesome.

I was thinking of having my Rocker boxes powder coated for a similar look, but was talking to a n acquaintance at the local watering hole, that said "you'll be happier if you just replaced the chrome, powder coating chips after a while, just won't last, and will look like h#ll in a short time.

Any truth in that?

Is your engine silver or black?
Powder coat, if done properly, will last a long time. On the pieces you're talking about, I can't imagine it chipping. How much chrome is there on the rest of the bike? Gotta think of the big picture.

Powder coating when done correctly will last damn near forever. My local guy media blasts the chrome off the part, then cleans it and coats it. I have parts that have been coated for 10+ years and still look brand new.

If you are going for blacking things out, or adding color. Powder is the way to go. I sent out a handful of stock parts 2 years ago that were chrome, and had them PC gloss black. Still looks good as new.
