Yes that's it , when I rebuilt top end two 2 miles out my dip stick blew out. After that I fliped them up side down under scotch brute looking thing, so they are basically doing nothing. Works fine like this , have about 20,000 miles like this. After few hundred miles of rebuild did breather's lines to the ground both with own 1/4 inch line. Very little oil comes out , more like snot, same I've seen others get in catch can. My guess is the rings not settled yet caused extra blow-by so umbrellas in there restrictions caused dip stick to fly. Lucky drove back & found it on the side of road.

Both my 2007 road King and 2016 RGS take 3.5 quarts.Drain it when it's hot.Remove dipstick and I get it off the fiffy stand.Seems to work good for me so far.I remove filter after oil is drained.

Correct me if I'm wrong, But what I'm seeing and hearing is, there tends to be some different oil capacities from Harley to Harley. I've been told by others that they like the Dyna filters if they can get one that fits. Larger filters have more area to filter oil as well as cool it. Which leads me to the Glides oil cooler ? Is that why there is a smaller filter ? Etc... Enjoying the responses, truly educating...

That.

Just did mine yesterday. Same way as OP - on jiffy stand. Only difference was the oil was hot. Three quarts and right at the middle marker - as always. Poured the pan back into the bottles - 2.5 quarts - as always. Some gets left in the pan and some in the filter.

I think this is where we are differing on quanities. Yes 3 quarts on touring bike, is around 1/2 way. 3.5 as service manual says is full. Some early owners manuals had 4. I do tend run at 1/2, but I start at full when doing a change.

Is Dyna a brand? All TCs have same oil filter.

Only problem I ever had was with an after market filter, just a hair to long to clear the CPK with my oil cooler base. Would never thread, but appeared ok.

My 07 does ok at full. My 01 has always lost oil, especially when running hard on interstate, like out west 90mph. Though I think my 07 has started to lose a little after 40k. But I don't remember adding between changes, like I do with my 01. 07 has screw in oil cap, but I did retrofit the 2002 vent to my 01 spout.

Yeah, my 1st oil change on my 11 Ultra I dumped in 4. Lesson learned on that one. Ever since I've added three. On the Ultra I used to run top mark so I would add some from the 4th quart. But then I was getting oil dripping out of the football, so I reduced the levels.

On the Street Glide, the level pretty much holds from the change. It might use a little, but not a measurable amount. Not bad considering the last change interval was 5k miles, which was stupid on my part. We racked up more miles than I thought recently.

Not really.. The capacities are all the same for say Baggers (or all Dynas, Etc) .. What make the difference is how much oil you drain out of the motor.. Position, time after last run, how hot the motor got during the last run and ambient temps all make a difference.

I typically go 5k. 9k when I went to AK.

actually running the motor before an oil change creates one thing....warmer oil; that drains the oil quicker with less residual oil period, all the crud should be in the filter.

If you want to get more oil out of it at oil change time, but don't want to use an oil scavenger, here is what I discovered.

If changing the oil on the jiffy stand, after you think all the oil has drained, put the bike upright, then back down on the jiffy stand. You will see another stream of oil come out. Repeat 5-6 times until no more oil stream comes out.
