Default Dyna rider Spends time on 107

Wasn't sure where to put this, but thought some may find it hepful/interesting. I have a 2014 Street Bob with the 103. I decided in June that next year I was buying a new touring bike. The Military Auto Sales had a deal going on at an event I attended. If I put down deposit then (July) on a 2017 I would get a certain $ down payment match, and 2016 pricing. So when I started hearing the rumors I was even more excited.

I had taken a demo on a '16 SGS already, and was really happy with it. Well This weekend the "local" Harley Dealer here where I live in Germany did an open house, and I was determined to get a ride on the new 107 SGS.

The wife and I got to spend about an hour on the bike, and I thought I would share my thoughts.

I love how smooth the entire experience is. The power is always there, and there is a very noticeable difference from my stock 103 SB. I love the way this bike handles. I really don't know why, but when 2-up on the SB it feels heavier, and less flickable than the SGS when two up. The bike just felt so easy and enjoyable to ride. I have a tendency to ride my SB hard. Something about the SGS just made me want to ride and enjoy how smooth and perfect it felt. I wasn't in the best of moods before getting on the bike, but the hour I spent on this thing completely changed that. I was smiling ear to ear when I got back. I did notice some heat that I don't feel on the SB, but remember it being even hotter on the '16. When I rode the '16 SGS I was honestly concerned with how hot it was. Not so on the '17. I didn't notice a whine that others have reported, and I thought the exhaust was acceptable. It did seem as though I was hearing some of the exhaust sound from almost right underneath me rather than from behind me. Not sure what causes that sense. It will absolutely take some time to get use to the clutch. My SB the clutch starts to grab very early in the travel, and is easy to allow slippage. The '17 SGS clutch felt like it didn't grab at all until almost completely released, and it was very sudden. I didn't feel like I could feather the clutch. The lever felt slightly heavier as well.

After riding the '17 SGS I can't explain how stoked I am for my new bike to arrive. Unfortunately late March early April is a long ways off....

Good post. I just pulled the trigger on a 2017 Ultra Limited. Traded in my Breakout (which I loved). I agree on the clutch, I started letting it out, pulled up my feet and the bike did not move. Kind of freaked me out a little. I talked to the service manger and he said they are all like that because of the new clutch system Harley is using. I need to be careful for the first few weeks on the bike. On the demo ride, when I hit it kind of hard (did not want to abuse a new bike so not as hard as I normally would) I felt the front tire get really light. I could not do that on my 103 even with a stage 1 and a dyno tune. So far loving it. Good luck to you.
