Default Installing USED gear drive cams

I have a set of used Andrews 37G cams, along with a new install and gear kit.

The cams look real good, no signs of any wear. You guys think it would be ok to use my old lifters? The bike has 50K miles. If I pull the old lifters and they look excessively worn, I will change them. Just wondering if using the old lifters with a used cam would be acceptable.

Wow, didn't realize lifters were that cheap. Guess it's new lifters.

However, getting the bearings on the cams and getting them in the cam plate is another story. Is the freezer-cams/oven-bearing the best way to go? Putting the bearings or the cam plate in the oven won't cause any damage?

If you don't have the correct tools, take your plate, bearings, cams, etc. to a dealer and have them do it for you. They shouldn't charge that much.

Agreed, take it to a place that can press them correctly. Although the freeze and heat method will work.

Agreed, heat/freeze does work but it's really never as easy as people would have you believe.

Each of us has a different threshold when it comes to doing what I will call the more difficult jobs. That is one I would prefer to have done by an expert!

I agree, however, having not worked with a particular shop, how would you know their expertise? They could turn out to be dumb-asses.

I would only chose a shop with a decent reputation, it's as simple as that! Fortunately I have a local indy who is a long-standing H-D Master Tech with an excellent reputation, who has done a lot of work for me over the years. Find an owner you trust who can make a similar recommendation.

the tools will probably cost as much as having a dealer do the job, and you'll have to tools and experience when you are done

I installed a set of used Andrews 37 G cams in a 2000 FLHTCI using the over/freezer method. It was the first time I'd undertaken anything like that. It worked fine and was kind of fun.
