Default RE: EGS or Deluxe?

I like the Vivid Black deluxe, so that vs. the Black Cherry SG = $1400 cheaper. Or a Vivid Black EGS would be $2700 > SG & $1200 > Deluxe. If only the EGS didnt have the all silver motor.... The dealer is also giving $750 gift card now, so that buys a few accessories. Another thing is my wife will not ride, so the larger seat or air suspension isnt as critical for a solo rider, I dont think? Im also not sure I need a radio on my bike since I dont know if Ill be doing any 2000 mile trips. Im afraid Im getting to the point where Ive researched so much that I have to much information now.

I just went from a Sportster to a Road King Custom. I had a lot of the same issues on which bike. Short legswasmy biggest issue. I was intimidated by the bigger bikes but have over come that after riding for over a month now. I looked at the deluxe real hard and liked it for it's low seating height but after looking at adding bags and stuff it was still less to go with a bike with them already on. Get what you like, but I haven't looked back. I love riding a touring bike now...

Yeah, what YOU like is the most important thing. Which would you choose if MSRP or equipment wasn't an issue?

The best thing about the SG is other than a seat, taller windscreen and slipons I dont think the bike needs andything else, the Deluxe would need bags, windshield, seat, control extensions, slip ons, etc.
That's what you think. Hell, that's whatI thought when I bought my Ultra. That was about 2 years and $10,000 ago.

Of course it's going to cost you alot more making that EGS suit your tastes. I never thought I wouldwant a radio on a bike either, but I really like the thing now. The new HD sound system is pretty sweet. I think you can eliminate the Deluxe. They arenicebikes, but when I rode one I felt like I was riding a bicycle from the 1920s. I don't like the low seat height and beach type bars. I feel the same way about the road king custom. The EGS just looks like it's half finished. I have seen some nice ones on this forum, but those looks come at a premium. Is the engine on the EGS chromed or anodized?

For looks and versatility you can't beat the SG. It'sbad looking and has the conveniences of a touring bike. I'm seriously considering one as a second bike. If they come out with a CVO model in 08 then I'm going to have to start crunching numbers. I'd love to see what I can do with that 110" engine.

Thanks for asking this question as I am struggling with kind of the same decisions...although, I plan on getting a '08 as soon as I can order one. I already have a fully equipped touring bike for the long trips, but I want a Harley for running around town, day rides, or short overnight trips. I'm used to big touring bikes; had one since '84, so the EGS size doesn't bother me. I think that the EGS is a lot of bike for the $$$...hard to resist at that price. Based on what people have said in their responses to your question, I think that the FLHT is the deal for me. Now, if I could only get a deal on an '08......

EGS is my pick. I always regret not buying a bike with bags, until today I just bought an 06 Classic.

If you get the EGS.....use the $750 gift card to buy the chrome primary, timer, tranny, rocker covers. It changes the look of the gray motor. When I do the big bore kit, she'll have chrome covers too.

if youre wrestling with your decision over the money- youll regret it if you go with the 'lower price' option.

youre spending alot of money as it is- i wouldnt let $2500 sway me away from what i REALLY want based on price alone. if you do- youll ALWAYS regret your decision and ultimately pay much more than that in one of two ways: (1) spending the money to make your bike more like a XXX OR (2) trading it in an eventually getting a XXX.

My money went on the Fire Red Pearl EG Standard!!!! After ALOT of 'looking', 'thinking', 'dreaming'; I felt it was the most 'bang' for the buck! Maybe unusual for a Harley owner...but Im NOT a 'chrome' nut. As it is.....the standard has ALL the 'chrome' I really care for. I've allready purchased a rack &passenger backrest, along with cruise control...all which will be installed by the dealer when the cruise module comes in. Ive also purchased an oil cooler which will be installed at the 1000 mile service; I'll also addfairing mounted oil pressureand oil temperature gauges.I will be adding 'saddlebag guards', hiway pegs, 3-pocket leather windshield pouch, H-D "chaps", RJS Original saddle heat shields, saddlebag latch lights, and FINALLY the RetroRadio package from biketronics (once I make up my mind WHICH SONY unit I want). Ultimately, I want tohave a solo seat and chopped tour pack for those 'solo' weekends. Maybe put a set of SE Pipes in time. Other than maybe a few 'nickle & dime' additions here n there...like a tattoo on my arm that says...

"IMA GONNA!!!"

lol

Sure, it might 'cost' me more...but in the long run, I'll have the 'bike' that for YEARS Ive pictured in my head. Isnt that what it's all about???
