Anybody know how to reset the computer? Couldn't find anything in owners manual. Changed bars and grips, everything works and double checked all electrical connections. Disconnected battery cable overnight, light is still on. Trying to save trip to dealer. Thanks
^^^ Yeah, $299 for a code reader? They sell them for $25 for cars. At that price you might as well pony up for a Power Vision. Or just push the trip reset button and read the codes that way...
Well at at least $100 a pop just to check out a check engine light at a dealership, the device pays for itself quickly. Plus it can be used to scan multiple bikes and is designed specifically to stay snugly attached when riding. For some that appreciate the technology, it's a bargain. Plus it helps owners know what is wrong with their bike before they even pull into a mechanic's shop. Can't believe a bike owner would have an issue spending a couple of hundred to get a diagnostic advantage. I honestly want to know what is going on so I can handle repairs myself, save myself a trip and not get ripped off from a dealership. But nevertheless, a person can still continue to go to a dealership and wait for the ball to drop. I would prefer to be prepared.
And yes, I can't believe it has taken so long for such a common-sense tool to become available to Harley riders.
And it is a handy tool for people who simply need to know the details quickly for themselves or send a report to a trusted mechanic before driving there. Just saying.
Thanks but no thanks.
Using the odometer button gets you the same codes for free and takes less than 5 minutes to do. There are multiple websites that describe what the codes mean and several fourms, like this one, with lots of helpful people willing to talk you through repairs for those codes. Besides any mechanic worth going to is going to pull codes for himself, not rely an owners word.
So this is interesting. For all the dealer bashing (incompetence, presumably), OP changed bars and grips and now is getting codes.
Speculation: in order to save money, and I assume avoid dealer incompetence, he did the work himself, and was incompetent, and now wants to avoid a dealer visit, likely because he doesn't want to swallow his pride.
We havin fun yet?
Now, I admit, its not clear from the original post if the dealer did the work, now he gets the codes, and because of that he wants to avoid going back to the dealer. Subsequent posts should be interesting.
