Hi all,
Just had fairing painted to fit my RK and have made provision for radio and speakers to be fitted.
It requires 1live for radio memory and the usual on off power.
What's the best way to wire this up?
Not too sure about Rushmore bikes, but the battery is your constant source. Most fairing makers with stereos will have you connect to the battery to retain your radio presets.
Not precisely sure what you're asking but wiring a radio is about as easy as it gets. You need 3 wires. 1 B+ meaning constant, unsxitched 12v, ie straight from the battery. 1 12v switched, ie 12v that turns on with the ignition. And finally, a ground wire.
You can get those from any number of places. You may have all three in the headlight nacell. Or you can find the accessory power connector and B+ connector that HD provides. They are often under the seat in front of the battery or under the left side cover.
I know its a daft question to ask, I suppose its more like where the bast place to get the wires from. I would use the auxiliary socket under the seat but not sure of the wire codes.
For your purpose wire colors would be convenient but not reall necessary as a digital volt meter will tell you everything you need to know.
You won't, however, be able to get the 12v constant from the accessory plug. You'll need to find the B+ connector as well. The accessory plug has ignition switched 12v, 12v through the accessory switch, a brake light wire and a ground.

When I wired a radio into my old Electraglide Standard, I ran a constant power wire from the battery with a fuse block.
I then located a wire to the headlight for the switch wire and added a fuse block for it as well.
Ground wire, well thats easy.
If you wire it to the battery alone, you really need a switch to kill the power all the way as it will draw your battery down while sitting.
I have a reckless fairing on my RK and it is wired to the battery, but it has a main switch underneath it to kill all the power to the fairing.
