Default gas mileage

I added a PC III, V&H Slip-ons and Ness Big Sucker. Great power now but mileage went from near 50 to barely 40. Can't I have it all??????

Well you sure can't get max power/torque AND max mpg but there arebikes on this boardthat are doing better than 40 mpg and still have good power. Have your bike dyno'd and tell the tuner what you want.

yes you can. ride the Harley for the riding experience, buy a Vespa for the fuel mileage. Just heard that Vespa has a new theme song "Born to be Mild"

First, if you were getting nearly 50 you were doing better than most or only riding very conservatively at speeds under 60 mph all the time. If the only changes that you made were slip-ons, an air cleaner, and aPCIII and didn't change your riding habits and your mileage went from near 50 to barely 40, you need to have your bike retuned.

You can regain some or all of your lost mileage at cruise (highway) with some tweaks to your PCIII map. Attached is my original canned map from Fuel Moto (top, "PCIII-2a") and tweaked (bottom, "PCIII-2b"). Note the "take-off range" (1k-2k RPM @ 2-10% TP) and the "cruise range" (2k-3k RPM @ 5-10% TP). Don't mess with anything above 10% TP, as to do so will likely create a flat spot at roll-on, as above 10% TP s outside the cruise range. Mine is a bit different at 20% than original (PCIII-2a) because I moved 0-20% from an older map that worked well. Confusing, I know.

The important range is this "cruise range," and I've had no heat or detonation side effects changing these values on this SG and a friend's Deluxe. If you hear detonation, increase these values slowly until it disappears.

Mileage at cruise is >50mpg (46-48 in cold weather) on my bike with few cold starts, which kills mileage. This is given you don't have a lead hand (aka lead foot in car parlance), as when you get out of the cruise range you are dumping more gas into the mix.

if you want real MPG ... then I guess you needa get the Schwin Campus Scooter. 117mpg

I'm starting to have a bit more 'fun' with my Ultra and see my mpgs dropping a lil. Just to and from work with 'cruisin' and being easy on the throttle I usually get around 46ish but when having a bit more fun I've seen it dip down to 39-41.

riding styles ... type of traffic etc make a huge difference. I bet ya ridin it a lil harder than before with the new-found power which is probably affecting it more.

My mileage varies. Someone told me the weather (humidty, etc.) can account for that.
