Carbureted tank on Delphi fuel injected bike
Hello all! Just bought a 2004 ultra classic and am new to the forum. I bought the bike used from my dad with 17,000 miles on it a few weeks ago. I'm in the process of changing the bike over to all black rather than the maroon color he had it in. I've been able to buy most parts right from the dealer but the price of a new tank is outrageous
I then began considering getting the tank painted. I was talking to a friend of mine who had a 1998 ultra classic and he told me that he has an extra tank already painted black from when he changed his bike over a few years ago. My question is this, his 1998 tank is from the carbureted ultra classic version. My bike is Delphi fuel injected. Is it possible to swap these tanks out without any serious modifications? I apologize in advance if this has already been covered elsewhere. I tried to do some research and it looks like only the MM injected tanks require a second hole in the bottom is this true? The fuel injection pump is mounted inside your tank, with an access panel on top to get at it. A carb tank doesn't have that, and the two tanks look quite different under the chrome top cover. You can check on-line here. I've converted an EFI tank to carb, for which the parts are simple and available, but don't know of anyone who has done the reverse!
