I am seeing a lot of threads with people talking about their build and getting great results. Problem is when they post the parts of their build they just say "high flow a/c". Can I just go with any? From why I have read they all provide the engine with more than enough air flow....
This begs the additional question.
Do you even need a high flow air cleaner?
I've read in more than one place that the stock air cleaner flows more than enough air for most stage 1 and 2 applications. Bit I have never seen any documentation showing what the stock air flow is.
Why should I spend $$$$ on a HF cleaner if the stock one provides the engine with what it needs?

You dont have to, its all about what you want.
KN filter compared to Crusher Street Sleeper III. The KN is good enough til ~ 3,700 rpm.
Stock Rushmore filter compared to FM's hi flo a/c.
I run the S&S Stealth high flow. Very happy. $112.
If there is an obvious notable difference over the factory unit, it's noise. The open element systems without the backing unit, are a lot louder when you crack the throttle. I liken it to flipping the air cleaner lid on old carburetor cars.... back in the day. You hardly notice it with loud pipes, but with the stock exhaust, it's pretty loud.
I went with the A/NESS big sucker and cant hear any noise but it seams to rev easier the RUSH headers & 4inch BIG LOUIES drown it out , I also use the FP3 tuner and like it
13 and older can use a better Stage-I air cleaner, 14 and newer just add a K&N replacement filter.
This is what I did for my Stage 1.
Everybody sells their stuff with claims and dyno sheets to back up better than stock air flow. My Stage 1 runs good with all stock air cleaner or with the K&N replacement I put in, maybe if I change cams and do head work I'd use the different housing like a Fuel Moto because I like the looks of the stock cover.
On a Stage 1 bike the performance difference might be there but I can't feel it with just an air cleaner change.
