I have an issue with my tour pack making a squeaking noise at certain RPMs. When I crank up the tunes I cannot hear it as well but it is still there. I think I have it narrowed down to the lid. Is there anyway to tighten it up?
Hey Brother had the same issue. So mine was a squeaking noise when I was in gear I could hear it . I placed my hand on the tour pack it stopped. So I re-tightened everything on the tour pack. You will not be able to tighten all the hinges as some are rivets. I would loosen all your bolts make sure the pack itself is well centered and use Blue loctite and tighten her up.
Now that said it didn't work for me, I bought years ago tour pack re locator that where basically 2 pieces of flat steel my wife and I started riding 2 up a lot over the last 2 years I believe something got loose, anyhow after her being on the bike and having that extra weight (No comment on my wife's weight please, not what I meant). everything now with the tightening and pressure on the tour pack seemed to of had everything re align. Harley Gremlins I guess
I had the same thing, It was the latch causing the squeaking. The only way I know how to fix it is to wreck and total your motorcycle and hope the new one doesn't squeak. That's what I did.
If you're sure that it is the tour pack lid, I'd recommend replacing the OEM hinges with the H-D Premium hinges (on the pre-'14 model year bikes) and perhaps even the premium latches.
On my 2000 Ultra, in addition to the premium hinges, I had to replace the luggage rack (twice) that the tour pack is mounted on due to fracturing at the mounting bolt holes (manufacturing defect).
I also had to replace one of the rubber studded isolators that attaches the passenger backrest mounts to the tour pack.
I liked the reliability and the appearance of the premium hinges so much that I had them installed on my new bike before I took delivery.
Another possibility (if all else has failed) look at the seal.
After a while they loose there .... bounce back (its early).
If you have a tight seal it will not only help noises and keeping items clean and dry.
My tour pak sounds like it is coming off at times. I have checked and tightened all bolts and even velcroed the liner down. The roads I ride on are crap so I think that is a part of it. Do not notice it when mama is behind me. Guess that's what the radio is actually for, drowning out all the sounds while ridin.
Mine turned out to be the back rest. Bolts were tight, but it does flex on the rubber mounts. Worth a look.
Be careful when buying the studded rubber isolators.
I bought a package of three from my local dealer (no longer in business) several years ago and I got a screwed BIG TIME on the price!!
You may want to try some parts guys at swap meets or if that fails may have one somewhere in my garage.
