I was planning on buying the Harley batwing reach handlebars but after reading the specs it mentions that they do not work with the harley heated grips.
I'm trying to get a set of bars that will move the grips a couple of inches closer to me, don't care if they are stock type or apes (no real interest in high apes). I think if I can move that bar back a couple of inches I'll be able to sit a bit more comfortably in the saddle.
Any ideas or know of any bars that will achieve what I'm looking for but still work with the harley heated grips? Also, anyone have an idea on why the Harley batwing reach bars won't work with the harley heated grips? I did check with the parts guy at my local dealer and he wasn't sure why they would't work.
if all your after is more pullback and a little height, look at the kromewerks sweepers, check their site to see if they work with heated grips. these bars have a nice flat wrist angle not like the wheelbarrow feel of the harley reach.

Oh yeah. I have the KromeWerks 2+2 narrow sweepers on my 14 Limited and I love them They work fine with my heated grips. No more pinch in my neck at the base of my skull.
bigdumbnoitall00....Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check those bars out
mkguitar...I haven't tried that, wasn't sure if it would help or not. Might have to try that out this weekend. did you adjust the clutch and brake levers after rotating it down?
ConfuciusSay....I get the pain in the center of my upper back, between the shoulder blades. Thanks for confirming that the heated grips work. Did you need to purchase extended cables or anything else to get the bars fitted?
basically, you loosen the clamps, rotate bars and lock it down.
pad the tank with a towel...on 13's and earlier the ignition switch is removed, the lower dash with switches and the 2 rear bolts can be reached- mine has allens- a cut off piece of 1/4" allen about 7/16" long is slipped into the head and turned with a wrench.
once bars are postioned you can reposition the controls so that they fall to hand
probably same on 14's and newer

mkguitar...thanks for the pics of the adjustment, much appreciated.
any other suggestions on bars? I'm not against apes, just don't think I want anything higher than maybe 10", but would still need it to pull back so I can be comfortable.

I used to get pain in the exact same spot. Here's what I've tried and what actually worked. Had a stock RKC. It was terrible. Added a backrest. That kind of helped. Put on the police bars and that helped more, but I would still get the pain after 3-400 miles. I carried two tennis ***** in a sock to lay on and stretch it out, when I got where I was going.
With my Street Glide, I put 12" Yaffe Monkey bars on it immediately. Once I did that, it sat me straight up in the seat. I'm no longer hanging on like a parachute and I get no pain in my upper back. I haven't even put a backrest on it. I would have never thought mini apes would have been this comfortable, but I encourage you to give them a shot. I'm 5'11' with a 32" inseam if that helps. Good luck with your choice.
