Great advice here and it pushed me in the direction I was leaning anyway. Confirmation bias is a great thing . I have a handshake deal on a 100% stock 2015 Ultra Limited Low with under 8000 miles. Due to schedules we can't meet until next week and assuming the bike's condition is as the seller listed, I'll have it by this time next week.

Good deal man... don't feed into all the bs that the 107 is so much more power and blah blah blah. I have ridden about 6 of them now along with a brother who owns one and many friends. Every time I went to the dealer to do a trade in I walked out. For starters the m8 feels like I am riding my triumph or a friends victory. Second 3 out of the 5 people I know that owns one has already been to service at least once. The other 2 don't even ride enough to have a issue. I have raced them many times and won by a bike or 2, and the guy who has the screaming eagle setup on his bike is dead even with me. my 16 has full exhaust and intake with a power vision.

Don't get me wrong I am not knocking the 17 as it's is a great bike but just not for me. I also can't stand when I see a bunch of posts by people who probably never ridden one, and are gassing it up to be the ultimate machine. They try to make it seem like if you get a 103 you are nuts. The 103 has served us great and I would take one cross country any day over a m8. Maybe in a year or 2 that might change, but only time will tell.

Anyway best of luck with the new bike you will love it. Keep us posted !

My Glide came new without a tourpak, but having bought one I don't often take it off, although removing it only takes a couple of minutes. I courted my wife with it and it is a great thing to have back there.

Im' sorry folks, but the majority are wrong here. What makes a SG special to SG owners are the chromeless fenders, simple paint, sport lighting, lower profile (less comfortable) seat, low profile windshield and other assorted chrome, controls and feet rest. Making a geezer-glide Limited into a sportcruiser SG requires replacing the fender and most of the lighting, foot controls, seat, and even the windshield. Not cheap at all.

Adding a quick detach to the Tourpack just turns the Ultra into and Geezer Glide Sport at best. I've done the math many times, converting the Ultra into a SG cost a lot more than adding a Tourpack and new seat to the SG to get near the same riding style.

Not trying to be argumentative, but since the SG was introduced in 2006, it has been one of Harleys top two selling bikes for a reason, style. Just removing the Tourpack doesn't quite it get there. Most SG buyers know the Ultra is more bang for the buck, but that is the price they are willing to pay to cruise in style.

Other than that, I agree with what most folks are saying about the differences in the two bikes.

I just traded my 2015 Road King, which I loved, for a 2016 Ultra Limited (not the low). Best deal was to be made on the 2016. I went that route due to the wife wanting the comforts the Ultra offers. Had she been with me when I bought the RK, I would have a 2015 Ultra Limited.

As to making it look like an SG, you can find plenty of take off parts on the forums if you want an SG/RG front fender and an SG/RG seat, and not pay that much. The biggest expense is the HD detachable tour pak kit, if you want to go HD hardware. But, that is still less than adding a tour pak, a detachable kit, and backrest.

Welcome, good luck on the deal, and safe riding.

Michael

Sorry, but I couldn't resist jumping into the fray. And since it's not my money and you asked, get the SGS as you said you liked it better. Once you buy the bike, it will be a disease. No matter what, you will find a reason to "make it yours". As for performance? Only you know what is enough. I bought a 103 and dropped a cam in her the first year and was glad I did. Some on here are never satisfied with power... or comfort. Maybe I am fortunate that I don't have a bottomless bank account or I'd be chasing power, comfort and handling too.

For the record, I have a 30" inseam and the SG is fine in any shoes. You could lower it as many have done or wear thicker soled shoes/boots. As for the Tour Pac? You can buy that, or get an inexpensive 4-point rack and buy a nice T-bags to mount on the sissy bar. Then, you can bring your stuff with you instead of worrying if someone is going to break into your Pac. Don't worry, you'll figure it out.

Show some pics when you bring her home. And if you want to save money, don't come to this forum once you buy the bike!

That is sage advice - HDF has cost me a fortune since I joined.

As already mentioned, don't forget to take Mrs M along. There is no greater joy than riding together and sharing the whole process.

Ok, here she is, the deal went through without a hitch (although both our wives thought we were going to get murdered by the other guy). I flew to Indiana and then drove the bike back to the Atlanta area all in one day, nothing like a 469 mile day to get to know your new ride. Ended up with a 100% stock 2015 Ultra Limited Low with 7700 miles for a really good price. First driving impression was great. Both the stereo and stock exhaust sound good, I love the cruise control, the previous owner put in a back rest and highway pegs which were a nice plus, overall it was a very comfortable ride. Negatives were mostly minor: the pipes cook my right calf, the bike seems about an inch taller than the '16 I test drove at my local dealer, and the shifter is a challenging reach. One major complaint is the headlight is almost worthless -- I've never been so nervous riding a bike at night, anything more than 25 mph and I'm overdriving the light. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase and my 1st order of business will be to at least replace that headlight, perhaps LED all the way around.

15 already has an led headlight, try adjusting it, it should also have passing lamps.

Congrats on the new bike. I'm positive you will enjoy the heck out of it. When I bought mine I was a bit apprehensive only because of the size and bulk of the bike. Soon got used to it and now I couldn't see myself on anything else. Enjoy, stay safe
