Neutral light while in gear

I was out riding my 07 SG ( 4k miles on it) on a group ride when all of a sudden Neutral light and the security key light comes on, while I'm riding in 3rd gear at about 3000 rpms. It eventually goes off after I donwshift. Could it be a tranny issue or electrical. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.

I've read about this issue in a magazine, replace the neutral switch.

Had the same problem. The neutral switch/sensor is the problem - NOT the tranny. It only surfaced when theengine became hot(temp=235); when the engine cooled down, the problem went away. The key is just a code trip stating that the neutral sensor malfunctioned.My problem started the day Itook delivery; I thought, ah, this is what everyone has been talking about. Took itright back to the dealership; the service tech recrimped thewire/connector to the sensor. Mine hasn't malfunctioned again after the wire recrimp. Good Luck!
