Default Floating Rotors - High Pitched Whine

I recently had floating rotors installed on the front of my 2006 Street Glide. It has alleviated that "harmonic hum" many of us have experienced in the past.

However, I am not getting a high pitched whine. The whine is most noticable during slow speed turns.

The slightest tap of the front brake lever will make the whine stop. But as soon as I release the front brake, the whine returns. I am fairly sure that the noise is constant, but only being noticed at slow speeds because of engine and wind noise.

Could it be a mis-alignment of the calipers? A need for new brake pads?

Thanks, John

I notice my floaters must be slightly thicker than the stock rotors as they have a good bit of drag. They haven't turned blue, so, I haven't worried about it. My exhaust is the only thing I hear when I'm going other than the gear drive cam.

Jay - I have a 1200C, 2007 Sportster and I am having a hard time getting information on my problem. Basically when I brake (both rear and front), I get that harmonic hum you were referring to but couldnt find any posts or info on it...any ideas? thanks so much for the help.

Did you change to new brake pads when you had your floating rotors installed? This is a must do! If your new rotors are chrome, you may not be able to use the stock HD brake pads in the future. There are brake pads available for the floating rotors. Remember, also, that you may never get an exact alignment between the calipers and the rotors. Unless you use some shims on the calipers. Even then, you may still hear some noise.

Most I've seen go away in a few hundred miles.
