Contacted "Sylvester J. Laminar" chemical engineer & physicist at Dow Chemical. I asked if date code is not legible on quart bottles of Mobile 1 20w 50 V-Twin synthetic motor oil, what suggestions do you recommend.
Answer:
First let me reiterate, if oil remains factory sealed in original containers, and is not exposed to changing temperatures doesn't really expire. The additives at a certain point separate from original blending process, causing an imbalance in chemical structure. My suggestion to prolong oil life applies to all unopened containers of oil stored preferably at a constant temperature.
Rotate all containers by turning bottles upside down & vise a versa, once every 60 to 90 days this should slow separation and increase storage up to 10 years without any deprivations. Do not go beyond 10 years as other properties become another concern.
