Default oil question

Thinking of going to a different oil . Anyone using Mobil 1
or Castrol GTX ? I used Mobil 1 years ago in a VTX & liked
it . I didn't know till yesterday that Castrol even made a v-twin
oil . I've been letting a shop do my services for years , but
now I've decided since I'm retired & not working 7 days a week
that I can do my services .

I like using the Castrol Actevo 20/50 as it is a "partial syn" and it is still only $ 6 a qt.

Lots of info (mostly redundant) but the Oil Forum will answer all of your questions and make you laugh also.

Well I'd keep in mind that as long as the oil meets the manufacturer's service grade and weight specs, they should all work just fine. That being said, there's nothing wrong with trying out some new stuff every once and a while and having some fun wrenching on your bike.

I'm a long time user of Mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil in my Euro and Japanese bikes. I've tried a lot of different oils over the years and that's the oil I continue to use. Good prices for it at your local mega mart or auto shop (especially w/ the occasional 20% off auto store coupons) most times also. I've had to order it online a few times with a free ship to store/home option because the local store didn't stock it. Came quickly and I was good to go.

Been running Mobile 1 15W-50 in the bike motor for years. Still use the Formula + nondetergent gear oil in the other two holes. Still runs like new with close to 50K on it.

People on here just love to Bitch.....I like oil threads.
I am Bel-Ray guy myself.......
But I was at the auto oarts store the other day and they had Schaeffers Oil. I had never heard of it. The store owner swears by it and some good reviews on line. I think I will try that next change.

Motorcycle Consumer News Magazine (if they are still around) used to do oil comparisons.
One that was stands out was the Lucas V twin failed the rust protection test. The Mobil 1 stands out as one the best.

I used to use Mobil1 synthetic, then my local store was out of stock, but they had Castrol Full synthetic V-Twin 20-50. I tried the Castrol on both our bikes and never went back... our bikes run quieter with the Castrol. I'll mix both if there aren't enough of the Castrol (I normally change the oil on both bikes at the same time).
