14 will be like herding cats. On top of that there will be to many riding styles causing tension. I did it once with 6 riders and every day there was drama.

I almost forgot, Bear Butte was nice and quiet, lots of shade and good food.

FWIW ... If you've never been there the experience is greatly enhanced by a trip down "Pervert Alley" at Glencoe ... If you don't see "it" there you'll probably never see "it" anywhere :>)

2016 was our first time going to Sturgis.
We rode from Georgia to Sturgis in 3 days on a 2010 Ultra.
The return trip we did in 2 days.
We camped at Days End Campground in Sturgis. Very nice campground, but Sturgis is about an hours drive to Mt Rushmore and Custer Park, and every day we got caught in the rain on the return to the campground.

The week after Sturgis I reserved a hotel room in Custer, SD for 2017. $1100 for the week.

Like LizDC, we also stayed at cheap hotels while traveling, only we had them pre-booked.

In 2017 we won't get much more than a week off in Aug, so we will load the bike into the bed of the truck and take turns driving to get there in 1 day.

Make reservation in route early. Riding until you decide to call it a night may leave with no place to stay or a place that will empty the wallet

We rode from pittsburgh to sturgis 4 years ago. Great trip but stay far away from Chicago on your trip. Nothing but 6 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic and bike riding hell. ENJOY YOUR RIDE
