I recently bought a front fender light (old style) for my Road King Classic. I know where the connector is in the headlight nacelle. I'm wondering about the proper way to route the wiring from the fender up into the headlight area. I'm sure it will need to be held to the fender to keep it away from the tire. Does someone know how the wire is routed under the fender and then up to the nacelle? Should be the same as a fender tip light. Naturally want it as hidden as possible. Thanks, Roy
Stock fenders have clips inside and or button heads for plastic clips.
Plus on my two EGC's they run the wire behind the riveted fender mounts.
Then out side the fender through a small hole close to the left caliper
brake hose and then up the hose and into the fairing.
If you don't have the built in clips or studs, Might try plastic clips that snap over
the edge of the fender.
The clips on my ultra came loose and the tire rubbed thru the wire, so I rerouted it thru wre the fender attatch braket connets to the fender there is a nice little passage there like its made for it, no more rubbing problems.
Thank you Gentlemen, Exactly what I needed to know. mchacon, That's the same fender light I have. Really like the look. That is one beautiful King you have there. Very nice.[sm=smiley20.gif]
I recently installed one of the Kuryakyn Wild Boar front fender lights on my 07 Ultra and I just cleaned the inside of the fender really well and I duck taped the new wire that I used for the new fender light to the top inside of the fender. As long as you clean the surface really well, duck tape will hold better than the HD stick on wire holders.
What kind of fender light did you purchase...I am looking into one for my RKC. I believe to install it you can take off the front tire or take off the front fender...how did you guys install it?
It was easier for me to just remove the front fender. There were moments that I gave it a lil cussing, but on a difficulty scale of 1-10, it was only about a 4. It was just tedious, not difficult. And even though they have a different style of light than mine, the install will be the same on them all.
I have an 05 RKC. The fender was next to impossible to remove because of the lock fasteners HD uses to prevent the bolts from backing out. It was much easier to remove the front wheel. The only prob there was I HAD to upgrade the brakes and calipers!!I drilled a hole in the left side fender, just like HD does with the springer classic. I used a plastic fitting for wire-ties with double sided tape to run the wire to the left side. I cleaned the underside of the fender with solvent, then used Gorilla glue to attach the plastic fitting.I have 4000 miles on it from OH toNaples and Naples to OH in 26 hrs straight for the return trip, and DC to OH and back, and there abouts in the last 2 months and it's holding fine!
