Like the others, I have a pair with several interchangeable tips and converts from internal to external snap rings.

But, does anyone have a pair of pliers that prevents the snap ring from flying off into oblivion?

The best way to keep a snap ring from flying off is to use the right size tips that are hardened. Cheaper snap ring plier tips tend to flex in the smaller diameters. That said, I keep lever pin snap rings in stock. They usually get bent if you aren't careful to spread them apart just enough and no more. Once they're bent, I don't reuse them.

You will also need it to replace the seal on the shifter shaft on the transmission. It's a tiny little guy....

I picked up a Channel Lock set at Home Depot. It has various tips that come with it and a couple in the pack fit it just fine.

I happen to have a set very much like the HF set.

I far prefer these over ones with the interchangeable tips because these don't **** and twist the way the interchange types do. Several of the above are very small. If necessary, I could easily file one down smaller, but I haven't found that to be necessary so far.

Thanks for the replies. I did decide to file down one set of the tips to make them smaller/pointier. This allowed enough grip to get the ring off.

Clutch lever was easy to replace after that. From watching installation videos the brake lever will be a little bit more involved.

I second that, really like mine.

Remember to shim your brake lever so you don't break your brake switch.
