oscarg, I've ALWAYS been a big OLYMPUS fan in the film days (Nikon living off a name!) but I bow to reality here. As you read above, it's CANON POWERSHOT all the way. Your price range would allow the Powershot 630, and for about $ 15.00 more the Powershot 620 has better video capability for just a few megapixels less. We have both of these cameras now with 2 gig cards that hold six or seven hundred 7 or 8 megapixel images each. As said above, AA batteries are available around the world, you don't have to buy an expensive extra battery, image quality is OUTSTANDING and this is about the #3 best selling camera worldwide (#1 and #2 are big digital DSLRS). Here's a listing of the Powershot 630 for under $ 200: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho...649&sr=1-1

Here is a review of the Canon Powershot 620, virtually identical to the 630, and you'll LOVE this review site for its detail, honesty, and value:

I am a pro photographer & I use all Canon digital SLR equipment in my work.

On my bike however, I have the perfect little DC:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicfz8/

This little camera is totally awesome. It has a 12x zoom (most are 3-4), image stabilization & every feature anybody needs.

The best thing is, it is faster than s***. Most little DC's are very slow on the shutter release, the little Panasonic is as fast as a film camera.

I picked up a Casio Elixim 7 megapixel camera just before our Laughlin trip, handed it to the wife and came back with some great photos. I think our total price was just under $200 with a 2gig SD card, case and extra battery. The super-slim size and huge screen make it a perfect camera for a moto-trip.

Funny you ask as i just got delivered the Canon SD1000 from Costco for $250 and it included a 2GB SD card. This thing is tiny and has a 7.1 megapixel. It's perfect for my needs, i don't need a full fledged SLR type (great pix but to big and cumbersome in comparison), just something to carry with me at all times. Fits in a shirt pocket easily but still has a good feel to it.

most of the cameras in the 200 dollar range will take great pictures. try to get the highest megapixel you can afford and also get the biggest memory card you can. ihad a 1 gb memory card when i went to deals gap last year. i took approximatly 175 pictures and probably 10 minutes of video before the card was almost full. this year i will have a 2 gb card and also take the 1gb card with just in case. good luck.

I remember those old film days too!A lot of thoseother photographers chose OLYMPUS, and the OM2nMD took pictures every bit as clear and defined as any Nikon. And we sure had a lot of money left over!

I rode behind a guy from DFW out here on an SG rental who brought his Canon Sure-Shot. He dropped it, and I saw it "grenade" behind him at about 50 mph. He collected the parts, and put it back together. Back home, all the shots downloaded fine and it still takes good pictures. That event and the Powershot dcresource.com review comparisons were pretty convincing to me. Still, it's hard to find a "bad" digital camera out there today.

Firetender has it right. I have a couple of Canons, 35mm and a digital SLR. But on the bike on a long trip I like to pack light so I just bought the Canon Powershot 640 for about $300. Might be cheaper now. It takes 10Mega pixel shots and has a large LCD flip out screen and hasall the other features that the others have.

I bought one of the kids (who's going to betraveling)a Canon that takes AA batteries. Got the otherone a Sonywith a Lithium Ion rechargeable battery. Both cameras were in the $200.00 range. It cost the kid with the Lithium Ion battery$30.00 to replacethe lost charger.

I'd get something that takes AAbatteries, especially for road trips.
