I had a similar dilemma last fall when I got the itch to trade. I rode a 2017 SGS and a 2016 Limited. The dealer was was giving me $17,500 for my 2013 Limited Anniversary Edition. I ended us buying a 2015 Limited with 2,300 mile on the clock for $3,500 difference after my trade in. I would have been happy with any of the bikes I rode but the 2015 already had about 3k in upgrades, so for me it did come down to which bike I could get the best deal on. Good luck with your decision, you'll enjoy either bike.
In my opinion it's a no-brainer go for the 2016 103 in a 2016 pretty solid. The 17 did not blow my socks off yes its nice but. No aftermarket support that's going to take some time. Spend 10K more for the 17 bike and then going to spend a lot more in extras on "stuff" from Harley. Honestly I would encourage you to go with the 2016.
The only motor issues I know of is the coolant leak which has long been resolved I believe. You are financing so hard to finance gas but you could add some nice goodies for another $5k or so and have a fine machine. Stage 1, etc and it would run real nice. I say buy the 16. Maybe get an extended warranty too.
Tough question. I'm not afraid of introduction years because of warranties, and the M8 has been getting great reviews. Rumors are that the 2018s are coming out with a new frame. I'm personally holding out, but the 18's will be pricey.
After all that rambling, I would consider how long you plan to keep it. If longer than three years, then the M8 might give you more pleasure in the long run.
If you rode both, and didn't get off the '17 with the impression that the extra $ is worth it, then it's not worth it. I doubt you will buy the '16 and later say "damn I should have gotten the '17" if it didn't impress you with the difference.
Either bike is going to have a 2 year warranty, go buy the one you like and get to riding. Harley's are noisy, that's their thing. I do believe the M8 is quieter though. But lots of folks like the noise.
Yes! Waiting for the '18 because it'll be even better is not a real consideration...
I agree completely. Harley's thing is to entice new buyers every year with just a little bit more which I absolutely hate. Floods the market with low mileage used bikes. You could literally wait for ever for the next best thing. Does that make sense? Now that I read it I'm not sure.
