handlebar install/starter problem
finishing up the winter projects which included 14" prime apes. Got them installed and am having a starter issue. Trying to figure out if the starter happend to go bad on coincidence or more likely ive got something wrong. Heres a list of the scenarios ive tried
Battery is holding charge and on a maintainer.
1. bike in neutral ign switch turned on, starter clicks repeatedly.
pull starter relay, clicking stops.
Swapped relay with other in fuse box, same results.
2. Put bike in gear, ign on, no clicking. Pull in clutch, clicking starts.
Micro switch seems to be intact and functioning on clutch housing.
3. put bike in neutral, hold starter button, turn ign on, and starter will turn over as it should.
4. I unpluged the 3 handlebar wiring connections to the main harness. ign on, starter clicks.
Leads me to believe its not related to the handlebar wiring?
if so, that is the starter solenoid- stop (!)
every click is the contact points carboning up because you don;t have enough power to turn the starter motor, just enough for the solenoid to make contact...
you need a known good battery and cables tight
if you think your battery is good, take it to autozone for a load test
wscott posts battery deals when he finds them, I have the yuasa GYZ32HL
if you want to bypass all your bar wiring, get a 3' wire and crimp a terminal on one end, attach this to the starter solenoid ( where the green wire attaches), touch the other end to the battery +
your starter will turn
