We use it and would miss the extra space on a long trip. Due to security/weather concerns I usually pack the rain gear and bike cover up there. Plus they are light. Then as the weather changes I can still fit my leather in it. I can also get my half helmet up there if we are in a free state. Overall, yeh you want one. I use T-Bag rack bag made for my rack. Last summer I grabbed a Walmart duffel bag, maybe 20 inches and two bungees, it was successful. I may look for a cheap dry bag this year, sometimes it is easier to add the duffel bag than tell my sweetheart no.
Buy one. Not only just for trips, but prevent scratches, like if somebody throws a jacket on the tourpak while you're stopped for a few minutes. Makes a nice handle for opening & closing lid also!
I put the HD Stealth rack on because the stock one that came with the bike looked like crap.
I guess you could actually use it but I got it more for looks since the holes were already in the tour pack from the factory!
