Looking for insight, I'm getting ready to install S&S premium roller lifters. I cleaned removing packing oil with acetone & blow dry, followed by submersing lifter into Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w 50 oil.
My question: Should the lifter roller be free from oil allowing roller to spin freely to track around cam lobe without slipping possibly causing flat spots, or I'm I thinking incorrectly that leaving oil on roller will help?
In other words, how can one tell if roller is rotating (tracking) correctly around camshaft lobes?
Appreciate it!

The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.
The only thing you needed to do was wipe them off straight out of the box and apply a liberal amount of assembly lube and install. Soaking them in motor oil does nothing more than make a mess that you've gotta clean up.
Was thinking assembly lube or engine oil will keep lifter roller from spinning or tracking properly. So what I'm hearing that no matter what I put one the roller/cam lobes it will not slip and roller will track preventing flat spots.
Is this a correct assessment? Sorry about specifics it's my OCD!

FYI: Manufactures state clean lifters first with mineral spirts, acetone, or equivalent & allow to dry or blow dry, to remove sticky packing oil as it doesn't mix well with lubricating engine oils.
Packing oil is not a lubricating oil, but a sticky preservative (keeps lifters from corrosion or rusting).

FYI: You asked and from the sound of things I've installed quite a few more of these than you. And I thought my OCD was bad!!!!
just clean them as stated in the directions, apply assembly lube to the lifter rollers and the cam lobes, as well as the inner cam bearings. As long as the rollers are spinning freely and you have assembly lube on them they will roll along the cam lobe surface as normal. The only way the would create "flat spots" is if the rollers are seized due to the roller bearings failing. I doubt you would install them if they were seized.
BTW, the harly lifters are directional. Meaning that the oil fill hole on the side of the lifter needs to be oriented in the correct direction. When you install the lifters in the case bore, the oil inlet port on the lifter needs to face inward toward the cylinders.
