engine cases were sent out to cycle-Rama on the first week of October, talked to Wes and he has been in the process of designing a new cam that will hit harder from the bottom through the mid range and still keep the horse power through out the power band better than the Cr 651 cam. and will be dyno testing it very soon. and if all goes well i will be using it in my 124 build. several of his builds with the 651 cam have done 155-160 squared running a 66mm throttle hog. so if all goes well it should be one badass bagger.
wes is designing a new cam that will have more hp/tq through the low to mid power band that he hopes will outperform there cr651 cam which already is a very strong running cam. He tested this new cam in a s&s 124 untuned just to do comparison between it and the 651 cam. The new cam jumps right up with a twist of the throttle and has a flat line liner torque all the way across the power band. And that was a 124 with a 45 mm carb and not set up for these cams speck. So there will be more power in store, with the correct head set up correct and with a 66mm throttle body in place for sure
After talking with jimmy at HPI vs the throttle hog. I decided to go with there 62-64mm throttle body it arrived yesterday with the 6.2 injectors. what a fine piece of art it is!
What kind of compression you going to run with those cams? Who is doing the head work?
wes brown from cycle-rama is doing the HEADWORK using screaming eagle cvo 110 heads. using 2.1750 intake valves and 1.630 exhaust valves set @ 11.5:1 with a ccp of 195psi. I was going to go with the CR651 cams which are a proven performer of 150 squared but wes told me to wait he was in the process of developing some new cams that would improve the torque over the 651 cams and it would hit harder out of the hole and still make the power on the top. so i told him I was in no hurry lets see how these cams turn out. Cycle-rama has two new cams available now in the 660 lift version CR660I & CR 660 I-2 the difference will be the intake closings. Im going with the Cr660I-2 which has a closing of 61. they just tuned a 110 with the CR660I cams and it went off at 137/128, and wes said the bottom end tq was fierce. mine will be the first 124 out with the new cams and the proper headwork to support these cams. He installed these in a s&s 124 just to see what they would do pulled some dyno #'s with it untuned I believe he said it had 140 torque at 3000 rpms.
