If it came from the factory exactly as you need it, then there would be nothing left for the powers that be to suck the money out of your pocket over and over and over for necessitites and shiny new bling bling........

Why is it my bike doesn't come from the factory all set for top performance in that I have to spend MORE money to make it run right...PCIII, download, DFO or whatever.

Bike has to be sold EPA complient, once it is titled in your name you can do what ever you want. If you leave it stock you don't have to change a things, if you go for pipes that breath better you need to change the richness, a jet on a carb model or pcIII on a fuelie. If you want more performance you will pay for it, when you change one thing it will effect another and so on. If the dealers change it , they can because it is titled to you

Thanx everyone!! Ireally appreciate the answers. I bought an FLHTC new in 1991 and had it until last fall. The only engine mods it ever had were a simple jet kit on the carb. But last fall I also rode a "new" 2006 Electra Glide. I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I HAD BEEN MISSING!! And it was stock. The difference was unreal and the 92 was a great bike. I was just to used to it. So last week I bought the new bike (2006 1500k miles) and after reading this great forum I just got to wondering...............

The bike is the cheap part, it's all the shiny stuff and "go fast" stuff that gets exspensive...I liked the Goldwing reference, that pretty much says it all. You buy a Harley you have to personalize it, that's just the way it is and I personally enjoy it!
