Funny you mention that. Back in the fall of 2013, when I was in "serious" bike purchase mode, I had test ridden a Fat Bot, Street Bob, FLD, 2005 Super Glide and the then brandy new 2014 RK. While the RK felt BIG, it did left-right transitions easier than the FatBob and other Dyna's. Was very surprised at the excellent handling. And now, having ridden an M8...... my wallet trembles.

except for the ultra limited low model. those forks are shorter, but the rest of the lineup is the same.

need to do some renting so you can get some extended test rides in. I love my shark, and even though i'm short (5'4'') the dash being further out is not a negative. I don't like the claustrophobic feel of the batwing. and I got thumb switches for the radio

before I got my first roadglide, I did the aftermarket removeable batwing fairing thing. I don't think I would go that route again. too many vibes and squeaks and rattles for my taste.

I'm not sure I could go back to a windshield. I Took my wife's Heritage out the other day, and my fairing gives me much more Wind protection.

As for the tunes, I have a modular with a sena that I can stream through, that is fine for the cooler months, but I have put it on my 1/2 helmets when it's hot, and the wind noise drowns out those little helmet speakers. I can hear my music much better from the fairing in this scenereo. BTW, I have no upgrades on my radio, and I hear it fine on the highway at 80+ MPH.

Can't go wrong with the road king. It's the lightest plus like it's been mentioned you can add a fairing if you want to make it look like every other harley.

I had my Fatboy right where I wanted it. Went on a few long rides and the wife did just fine.... then she sat on the back of an Ultra Limited. She turned to me and said... "I want the Lay-Z-Boy."

Then we bought the RGU.

I had an 11 RK. Did trips of over 2800 miles on it plus several other 2000+ miles trips. Wife wanted the lazyboy so I ended up with an Ultra Classic. While I really like all the goodies on the Ultra I really miss my Road King. You have a tough choice to make my friend.

It's nice to have champagne problems....LOL.

Never ride a Road King, but I don't think you'd regret an Ultra or a Limited. I love my 16: Limited, which I traded my 09; Ultra for. The Ultra and Limited are both very nimble bikes.

Renting may be the way to go.

Let us know the outcome.

My wife and I in new mexico on a 3 day 1300 mile trip. we have traveled as much as 2800 miles without going home. the tour pack was extra and a luggage rack added to that to accommodate her things and rain gear. I have been lusting after an m8 road glide but she isn't ready for the "old people bike",lol

Beautiful bike!!! Wrong on the music "sounding like crap" though. For <500, you can have a sweet fairing setup that sounds good at any speed.
