Absolutely LOVED the Pan Am, did right at 21K miles on it in 18 months, it came down to a reliability issue for me. Lots of little things, nothing that shut me down (I was about to have my fuel pump replaced for the 2nd time). After a little while, all those little things add up and it just came to the point where I decided to cut my losses and move on.
The suspension and engine are just a joy on the Pan Am, I've had the RKS for 2 weeks now and I just replaced the rear suspension with Revo-A's. Yes, it made a HUGE difference but nowhere near as good as the Pan Am.
I've found I'm just a RK kinda guy, it's ticks the aesthetics and sound boxes for sure and I know I can make it almost as comfortable as the Pan Am. Performance, well it's not that kinda bike, that's what I'm telling myself anyway
Thanks for the insight! Yeah they seem like amazing machines, but there a lots of better performing machines that dont compete with my preference for the overall feel of my RKS. Reliability stuff gets old too. For me it sounds like its one of those 2nd (or 3rd) bikes thats fun to have for all the things it does right, but not my everyday primary.
Where did you order the mount? Been looking at the Amazon ones, but not sure on the quality.
I ordered a cheapo off ebay while I find a used chrome OEM one that I will have powder coated. I've found the cheapo's just don't last, it's thinner material.
Any of you guys using an 18" Freedom Shield on your RKS? If so, can you post a pic? Trying to decide between Clear and Light Gray. Medium Gray is not available and I think Dark Gray will be well, too dark
BTW, if anyone else is also looking, Freedom Shield is having a 20% off Black Friday sale.
