Have been asked elsewhere about mounting inside the windshield mounting points and I have tried it. The bottom edge was right up against the paint and I did not wan to risk damaging it.

Thanks for the details, it was me, they look the same as the OEM, good job...
Thanks for the fangs photos and info. We need some talented smart people to redesign these to fill that gap
The gap between the "fang" inner edge and the fork tube? I dunno. I was shocked at how much more heat I got on my right leg after installing these. But they really did a number on buffeting at high speeds. Legally 80 MPH out in the desert. Going that or just a little over the limit would beat me up before I installed them. I added mid frame deflectors and those have mitigated most of the heat. As for the gap, I suppose that the folks at HD did a fair bit of R&D and that gap may well be necessary to keep air moving over the engine to cool it? Not sure. I will say I'm not a big fan of how they look but they have grown on me and my bike really is set up for touring.

the gap at the top of the fang thats designed to wrap around the spot lights that we dont have. Like to see the deflector come up higher to meet the windshield

Ah! Yes, totally agree. It's one of the things I care for the least. Without the passing lights the space left open looks so very odd. With the "stripped down" look so popular right now, I too am surprised there isn't a more visually appealing option.
FXR King build in process. Got a set of Thrashin 9.5" risers and mid bend bar on this past weekend. Also have an FXRP fairing coming in a couple weeks from paint, will update you all further then.
