Default Happy Anniversary

10 years ago today I took possession of my RK. It's been a great bike and about to install to install 551 Ez Start S&S Cams as a reward.

Thought I would list the issues I've had.

I ordered the bike with cruise control. It hadn't worked since I took the bike home I was living in Yellowknife at the time so I trailered it home and put her in storage. Maiden voyage was 1 mile from dealer to in laws. There was no dealer in Yellowknife at the time.

Once the ice cleared I took her out and found the cruise would not work. I was pissed because I was heading to Baja on her. Stopped at a couple of dealers and nobody could diagnose it. I became an expert through this forum on setting lash on the cables, checking roll off switches etc. No joy. This went on for 4 years.

Just after the final payment was made I stripped the bags and seat off for a good detailing. When I pulled off the left side cover I found a plug and a space for it on a a little box that said speed control or something along that line. I plugged it in. Imagine my surprise when I tested the cruise later that day and it worked. Doh should have pulled the side covers off sooner.

in 2012 I was pulling into Tucson and my rear exhaust cracked at the Y pipe. Repaired under warranty as I had ESP.

That's it. No other issues. Bike now has 50,000 miles. Changed a few tires and brakes along the way along with oil changes and brake fluid flushing. But that's pretty much it.

Not bad for a first year 96 cu in 6 speed combo

Hope the next 50,000 miles are as little trouble.

Thanks for posting.
Nice to know your 'King has been a good and reliable steed.
Mine has been zero problems, just joy.
Happy trails to you!

It is one of the places that IRT departs from heading to the diamond mines.

Very nice, gotta love these machines. I had an 03 Fatboy 100 Ann (FI) for 14 years, other than a new ignition switch and cam tensioners never had an issue with her.
