I am thinking about buying a set of the 2-2a for my streetglide. I assume you have a set since you are asking about rebuild intervals? How do you like them?

It is worth the money, here is why. At 12-1/8" long, it has 3-1/4" stroke per howards wesite. That is awesome. Stoke matters. There is no other shocks out there that has more than 3" stroke at 12" long.
Im just 5'5" 160 lbs rider, so I do not make the cut from the touring specs. According to Moco, their touring models minimum rider specs are 5'9" 180 lbs. I am well below those specs. The stock shocks are too stiff for my weight.
And so I spend the money for more cushy ride.

I'd like to know about the average mileage until these shocks need rebuilding.
But do not send them back to him for rebuilding. I ended up sending them to ohlins USA after he rebuilt them.

There is more to shocks than stroke, namely the quality of the damping. We have Howard's #3-3, which have a little less stroke, but ride remarkably well. Especially when 2-up, Ohlins ride more smoothly than any shock I have tried, which alone extends the time we can spend in comfort on the saddle. They take out the patter of normal roads. In addition bumps and thumps are also smoothed out so much that we no longer need to brace ourselves to ride over them.

Might be worth a call to the man who built them. I'm sure he can tell you the recommended miles.

'Have asked the same question here and other forums,,, only got one straight answer from one actual Ohlins owner (on another forum) 20-25k miles... the rest "danced around" the question or asked (unrelated) questions of their own... 'Guessing the Ohlins "Fans" don't ride much??

'Was / am considering Ohlins, the price $$$ of entry doesn't really bother me, but with the rebuild co$t for the rears (what about the fronts??) every year or so (with the miles I ride), I'm shying away due to the high maintenance co$t$...

Another (related) question; what Component(s) in the Ohlins actually wear out that require a "re-build' ???

'Betting that this Thread / Questions doesn't get any real, clear, concrete, honest, answers....

As far as asking "the man that built them",,, I am asking him / them now...

Not an expert by any means. But I have read 15 to 20K for a rebuild. The reason the miles are all over the map and there are so many answers IMO. Is Are you 180 or 320 lbs? 1 up or two up? Fully loaded or hop from bar to bar with nothing. Live in a Hot climate like AZ. Or in a cooler climate? Mostly high way or back roads which tend to be harder on a bike. Yes there are always exceptions. As far as fluid I would bet that is not the main reason for a change. I would say the seals simply have a self life. Just like anything else. Some people want to know based on cost. Great reason. However there are those who want to be able to say. "You said !!!" Just way to many variables. Just the fact that a lot of people put them on themselves and may not do it correctly? Would shorten that time line. If the shock is not vertically straight in the cylinder seals will be an issue. Causing leaks and poor performance. Setup is also a huge factor. Again JMO..Peace. Ride often ride safe! BTW have 2-2B's love them.

2013superglideseattle, I know what you mean about not fitting MOCO's ideal size. I am 5'3 and 125#. The factory shocks hardly move with me on them.

Is this serious?!? I ride 20k-25k per year, and If I buy Ohlins, I'm going to have to ship them off and have them rebuilt EVERY YEAR?!?

20-25k is the normal interval. Similar to fork oil changes, brake pads/fluid, wheel bearings.... etc. You can run them longer and some guys do.
