As mentioned in a couple of post . Our Crotch cooler puts a barrier between you and the motor it will help you while sitting in traffic and at lower speeds . They are very easy to install .. http://shop.captain-itch.com/Harley-...hields_c58.htm

Seems like a way to get and keep that rear jug mighty hot.

Wonder if there would be any benefit to a finned oil filter?

There is a small benefit heat wise to using a permanent high performance finned oil filter. (3-5*)

There is even more benefit to getting the oil filter out in the wind with an Oil Filter Relocation. (Our tests consistently showed an 8-10* drop, but we have had many Customers report a 15* or more drop)

You can see details on cooling strategies HERE.

I have the crotch wings on my RGS and I don't have any problems. I think the rear cylinder cut off at idle counteracts any extra heat there might be trapped in there.

But... is it just me or does it seem like the new lower fairings trap more heat than the older style? My feet seem much hotter than on my bike I had with the old style lower fairings. That's the only difference I notice.

I did the DK tip to remove one side of the heat shield near back of tank. Seams to at least even it out. The right side is on( hottest side) & the left off so it scoops the air around the back cylinder. For my bike it moves the heat away from ecm as a bonus.

Went from a stock header to the rush true duals. Ceramic inside and out. Not much change at all.

It's an accumulated effort on multiple areas needed to drop the heat.

I have lowers. It keeps more air flow on the motor. That's one. No cat. That's 2. FP3 that's 3, fullsac baffles. That's 4. No frame covers to trap heat. That's 5. (We'll agree to disagree those things are a heat trap), synthetic oil that's 6.

Bike is no issue with heat that I'd bother to bitch about.

Like all things subjective. Your opinion will vary. But I don't have an issue with heat. And those are the steps I took.

It's a big twin motor between my legs, it's gonna get hot wether it air cooled , oil , water or fan cooled. Even my Goldwing buddies bitch about it...
I try not to put myself in stopped traffic situations....I ride country roads as much as I can.

Hmmm. Synthetic oil, ceramic header, good tune, oil cooler, remove lowers and install a set of Ward's, I mean Mighty Mite head fans. Unless you want to redo your heads with water cooling. :-) Did I miss anything? Did you say you had $1500 or $3000 to spend?

After all this great advice I've decided (actually my wife decided) I'm just going to suck it up and quit spending money.. the foot is down and my hands are tied. The truth is I've been neutered. Thanks fellas!
