Default Changing spring in cam plate quick ???

Ok so I have my cam plate out to do tensioners and figure nows a good time to do the Baisley spring. Thing is after I punched the pin out the stock spring came flying out and I dont see a shaft/plunger thats supposed to be in there with the spring. Did it come flying out with the spring? Or is it still in there and I just cant tell? I tried tapping the cam plate on my work bench to see if something would fall out and tried a sticking a long magnet down in the hole but nothing is coming out. Am I missing something here or did it fly out in front of the spring? BTW this is an 04 Road King im working on.......

One thing you are mssing is a twin cam should not have idle oil pressure above 10 lbs or so. If you do, and the weather is hot, a stop lights, you will do a lot more damage with cooked oil. The oil injectors at the cylinder base are designed to open only at above 15lbs or so and speed when you have cooling air. The engine can take short term heat better then the oil.

Valve sits inboard of the spring.
Pull the plug at the top of the plate, put some compressed air in there.
If it's lost:
P/N 26400-82, oil pump relief valve

It's still in there. You likely damaged the hole the pin fits in slightly so that it won't fall out. Find something round and slightly smaller than the hole that you can put a taper on and wedge it gently enough into the valve so that you can pull it past the damaged hole if you want to get it out..

Yeah, it's still in there. All the oil can make it sticky too. Try compressed air. Or very gingerly use a really long set of needle nose and grab it from the inside. Like using a set of snap ring pliers.

Thanks for the info. I dont know what my oil pressure is, dont have a gauge. I've done a lot of reading while I have it apart and everything i've read ive not seen any problems from using the Baisley 15% spring.

i have the baisley 15% spring in every bike i own.

107, 96 and 120R, never had a problem in a couple hundred k miles.

04 bike has had it installed since first build at around 40k. its got over 180k now, so i think its a safe bet, it does not damage anything. you will see a noticable increase in pressure if you have a gauge. my idle oil pressure hot is 8 to 12, my running pressure is 32 to 38 hot.

Yeah just based on post like this I feel comfortable installing the spring. Acually its sorta a no brainer to me.

I got the valve out. Any recommended way to clean the valve so it doesnt stick anymore? I read someplace on here scotch brite pad?
