Torque Nirvana
Hello All!
Well, I must say that I think I have finally reached a very good point with my bike. Here's the setup prior to it entering the shop last week:
2004 FLHRCI
95" Big Bore
SE "Performance" heads
SE211 cams
Arlen Ness Stage II Big Sucker
Bassani Power Curve True-Dual headers
SE II Slip-on pipes
SERT
I have for some time now been disappointed by the performce I was getting out of the bike. I've had various folks tell me various things about what to do, add, change, etc. After getting spanked pretty badly in a race with my father (he on his '07 FLHRCI with a 103" upgrade) recently, I decided that it was time to take some action ... so I did quite a bit of research, assembled my plan of attack, then took the bike and the parts into my H-D for the work. Here's what we did:
Same original configuration, but we:
- Installed a new Kuryakan "Wild Things" 54mm throttle body and matching intake manifold
- Installed a new Zippers high flow air filter
- Installed a new Power Commander
The dealer (the owner) then put her on the dyno for tuning/testing ... see the attached dyno report before/after. Pay particular attention to the torque and notice how it shoots up to near 80 right from the get-go ... and is there all the way across. I'll tell you, this bike is like a 20-mule team ... pulls like a son-of-a-b$@*! right off the line and just keeps pulling all the way through. The dealer was highly impressed with the results. It's the combination of massively increasing the the flow into the engine while (as I am told) maintaining the reasonable back pressure provided by the SE II slip-ons. The dealer reckons that we could get as much as an additional 10HP out of it by moving to a freeer flowing exhaust, however the caveat would be losing the very impressive low/mid torque that we've achieved. I believe that I'll leave it where it is ... in the last 2 days I've outpulled (by a LARGE gap) a 103" FLHRCI and a new '07 SE 110" Road King!
Thought that I would share my latest experience.
Best to all.
