Default 103 Build Question

So here's the backstory:

Currently in Kuwait until May, when I get home it'll be the start of good riding season where I'm from. Bike has been parked since May (due to my deployment) so you can imagine how badly I want to ride.

Going to do some motor work. Currently have a 2010 Street Glide 96" with V&H Power Duals, Jackpot 4" pipes, and a AN Big Sucker.

A strong contender is always the FM 107 kit, and they are just a 5 hour ride away from my house. My dealer really only does SE kits for builds, which I'm not against, but none of them are exactly what I am looking for. Also, at this point I'll pay for convenience (I want to get home and ride, don't want to dink around going from shop to shop, or have my bike down for a week due to a big bore kit). That's why I'm starting to look at SE builds, because it could all be done while I'm gone (I should mention my bike is being stored at my dealer currently) and I would just have to ride it away when I pick it up.

So I've done some research, and I'm asking the smart motor guys here your opinions/advice, since my HD shop really can't answer my questions.

I want a 103 with a lot of low end torque (I honestly spend most time under 4,000 RPM, but do like to ring it out at times) so a SE255 cam is not a bad option, but I want just a little more power than the cam offers. Not chasing specific numbers on a dyno, just want a reliable, strong motor that has a little top end as well.

If I put the SE CNC heads on a 103 build with the 255s would that give some more top end power? I know the 255s don't like compression more than 10.1 so a higher compression piston is out, but maybe letting it breathe a little better will help top end power a touch? Like I said, not looking to build a drag bike, but want more than 85hp. I'd be pretty happy getting into the 90s for HP with a lot of torque. I do like the shape of the torque curve the SE 255 produces, just want the HP to climb a little higher.

Also looking at the SE 254e cams as well. Just hard to find dyno graphs on them as they are so new. I know it's going to have a little more top end than the 255s, but also have less torque. I could do a 103 with the SE 254e and the CNC heads as well and I think that may get me to where I want to be.

Also, my dealer does not work on PCVs, so I would have to get a SEPST. I have no first hand knowledge of the SEPST, do they have "canned" maps for the SE Cams with the CNC heads to make my bike run until I could get it on a dyno? I assume they do since it's all SE products, but like I said, I have no experience with the SEPST. There is a dyno 2 hours from my house, and could easily make a day run there.

Thanks for the input. Like I said, the FM 107 is a strong contender, but I now my fiance won't want me taking road trips for motor work when I get home (gotta spend some quality time), and I just want to get home and ride it without worrying about making a ton of appointments and so on.

The only SE kit (outside of the 120R) I would go with is the Stage 4 kit. Part # 27517-08. It looks like the only kit that reliably makes over 1 hp / CI right out of the box.

Yeah, I keep looking at that, and it's an option. I like the numbers, but not sure if that kit is "overkill" of what I'm looking for. I know the standard SE Stage II is underkill, just seeing what other options/combos I can come up with. The Stage IV is still a definite option though.

Price out having your bike delivered to FM.

Although I do not use their stuff, they are responsive to customers and they seem to have repeatable results from their packages. And that is what they do.

I just don't see dealer run shops ( the majority, yours may differ) being able to think outside the box--- not to say that they are drones, but for the most part dealer service depts are hesitant to work on anything that might be a little different- like a 10 year old bike.
The low hanging fruit for dealers are oil changes and tires- and I think they only pay as much as required for techs who can do that.

You'd see high 80's-low 90's with just a set of Woods TW6-6/555/777 cams..
Had the 6-6 set in my 96" Dyna and had 88hp/94tq with some power robbing V&H Big Radius 2-2 pipes..
Get the parts from Fuel Moto, and have your dealer install them. FM can give you a pre-loaded PCV for your combo, so when you pick up your bike you just mount it and away you go.
Did that with both my Dyna and SG... worked fabulous.

I was debating the same thing a couple of weeks ago I have a 11 flhx 96 with a sert and a fatcat on it runs good for what it is . Wanted more also 107 kit from moto fuel is a pretty good deal for 1299.00 or 2000.00 installed but then you will have to due something with the heads for releases . Will your dealer bore your cylinders to 103 or will they make you buy new ones . From what I can see so far on building these things is to go for the most you can afford. seems like people build to a certain point and then have to go bigger and it looks like it cost them alot to upgrade from that point I'm going thru the same crap right now but think I got a plan figured out today spoke with tman today and going to send him my heads and run his cams was recommend to him from two different dealers in my area that will have to tune the bike when i'm done putting it together .

I understand you wanting to ride the bike as soon as you get back, but I would still check all your options, and what's one more week after a year.

If I were you, i would email Fuelmoto and ask them about what you want, and talk cams and heads.
I have the SE 255 cams in my 103, they are great torque cams. If I did not care about the Factory HD 2yr warranty - i would go TW777 cams and the Fuelmoto B heads right away - I might not wait and just do the TW cams.
Give it a shot, check the fuelmoto site out.

I just installed 254E cams, Vance & Hines pro pipe, screaming eagle heavy breather and a HD race tuner. 88 HP and 101 ft lbs of torque. I like the cams they pull hard up to 5500 rpm
