Default First Service

Had a call from the dealership the other day from a customer service rep. I didn't hear the call so they left a voice mail asking how I was liking the bike so far. They also mentioned about mileage and getting ready for the first service which I am getting close to 1000 miles.

What floored me is when she left the message of we can get you in for around $850!!!!! REALLY!!!! Are they going to put all new chrome on? Everyone I have talked with said around $350 to $400 for first service. If that is the case, I'm doing it myself and keep the receipts.

What's everyone's thoughts?

Buy the manual and do it yourself. You will be much happier knowing it got done correctly. You'll also save a bunch of money.

the pricing is really bad. the only difference between that dealership and bonnie and Clyde is that bonnie and Clyde used guns to rob people.

I have heard of some high service prices but if $850 is correct that takes the case. I paid $280 for the 1K on my 2017 RGU about a month ago

I've never seen it that expensive. 350 to 400 at all the dealers in my area.
I like to let a dealer do the 1K checkup, but that's about the last time they see it tell it needs something beyond my capabilities.

You should be in the $350 -$450 range for the first service. It may be worth a call or visit to the dealership to determine what exactly they are going to do for $850.

You will get a lot of opinions here. If you have the service manual, tools and ability to go through the checklist, then at the very least, you would know it was performed correctly.

I'd be curious to know what they do for that kind of money. It's not unlike the car dealers, many of whom "recommend" services that are beyond what is specified for routine maintenance. I'm guessing something like that is the case here, or they're distilling their own boutique lubricants in the back room or something.....................

Actually just called the dealer and he said $512 out the door with tax and I know they are in a high sales tax area. Still a bite but I might let them do just the first. Repeat might. I do have the manual and only once has someone else turned a wrench on my bike and that was new tires when I didn't have time to do it.

Played the voice-mail for someone else and they said $850 as well is what they heard.
