Default Primary chain Tension 2003 RKC

How tight should the primary chain be when the engine is hot? I checked mne yesterday and it was tight. This morning with the bike cold it had no more than half an inch play although I didn't rotate the chain to find the tightest spot. Bike shifts fine but I can hear the chain slightly. Its even and consistent without any bangs or clangs. No filings on the magnet plug. I currently have the Harley formula in the primary.

Just from memory, I believe the HD manual gives a measure for cold setting at 1/2-5/8" free play at the inspection access hole in the primary cover.

Why not buy a HD Service Manual & you'll have all the info needed to work on your bike. A HD Parts Catalog is also helpful. Just my 2 cents. good luck

Ya I could buy one except I asked the question on Sunday when the dealers up here in Canada are closed. See usually on the weekends is when I get a chance to ride and do things with the bike. Ill endeavor to not ask dumb questions in the future.
