Default Handlebar Wire Harness Extension Kits.

For a winter project I want to install some higher, mini ape hangers, kind of handlebars. Because I ride a Ultra which has a CB, intercom and other handlebar controlled electronics I am concerned about having to extend the wiring that controls this stuff...

The other day while sitting on the thrown reading a past issue of V-Twin Magazine, I came across an ad for Handlebar Wire Harness Extensions by a company called Novello out of Port Chester, NY.

I sent an e-mail to him, he has no web pages listed, and asked what it would cost to purchase his kits to facilitate the higher handlebars I want to install. His response was I would need two different kits to handle all the electronics and gizmo's I have on my Ultra. Total cost was around a $100 plus shipping. My question is, has anyone dealt with this company or installed his kits?

Your thoughts please...

I purchased one of the kits from novello whenI put bars on my springer softail. The kits are color coded and make things fairly simple.I was running the wires inside the bars and after some thought I decided to not use the kit because I wanted the least amount of connections in my wiring. The connections would have been tucked away in the bars and inaccessable if there was a problem down the road or on the road for that matter.I ended up buying some wire at a local electrical supply company and made my own harness with only one joint instead of the three if you use the kit.For what it's worth All the color coded wire to do the job was only about 15 bucks and the damn deutsch fittings from Harleywere about 25 bucks. If I was not running the wiring in the bars I would recommend the kit for it's simplicity.Hope this helps .

Get your soldering gun out and buy a roll of wire. Add as much length as you need. Soldered connections are highly recommended.

Hey truckr, I put some Flanders bars on my EG classic and I didn't have to piece out anything. They do give you some slack in the wiring. I guess it depends on how high you want to go? I went with like a 10"height, 14" pullback and 36" width, and they are great. Got rid of that burning between my shoulder blades too! Check out the Flanders website:

I had to extend mine. There wasn't enough wire to pull any out. I soldiered. I thought, (correct me if I'm wrong) but the extensions are added at the end. It seemed simple but I thought adding the extensions all in one spot, would make it too bulky to fit in the switch housing.

I am installing Burly Bikini Beach Bars (36"w x 4"h x 12.75"pullback) on my Custom.
Stock RKC Bars are 31 1/2"w x 6"h x 14 1/2" pullback.
I'm told stock cables/brake lines will be O.K.
Will I need extensions for internal wiring?
Thanks for any input.

If you're going to run wire inside the apehangers, do your splicing in the middle (where your connections will be hidden inside the bar) so that you don't have to mess with soldering the switches. Do it one wire at a time and you don't have to worry about color codes, either. If you go this route, stagger your splices so that you don't any 2 wires spliced at the same point along the harness. It's much easier to pull your wires through the bars if you don't have a big gob of splices at the same point.

Hey Trucker, Do it yourself like the guys have said . Just take your time and Soldier all of the connections and you will be fine. I did my Wild 1 518's about 3 months ago and it was a piece of cake. I also found this thread on HD Forum that helped alot. I suggest reading it a couple of time BEFORE you start this modification. Check it out. https://www.hdforums.com/m_1328001/tm.htm

Good luck.
