I grew up fixing bikes myself, I wonder if a lot of upset is because people can't fix their own bikes these days and get pissed off because they aren't as reliable as a fridge?

I also grew up fixing my own bikes and hot rods and when i have a problem i look for a better way to fix things and try and make them bullet proof. I think alot of the problem is many new riders are just credit card people who just drop their scoots off at the dealer and have a hot dog and coffee while waiting for it. I have a couple of friends that it is just painfull to watch them with a screw driver or wrench in their hands.
This is all beside the point though. The quality of HD parts should be better for how much coin these things cost. It's the repeated stuff they just let continue on and on and on. I'm sure other companies have the same thing going on.
I knew going in i would be working on my own bike, that's why i've invested alot of money and time in my tool collection. What i haven't bought i've made.

I did also, but when I grew up I could take the engine out of my YZ250 in about 5 minutes, most of the time out of necessity as the sheriff was heading down the driveway! I could also wrench my cars on the fly. Now I need a computer science degree to lift the hood. One of the reasons I have a 57 chevy in the garage...

This is what worries me the most. I have always been behind the times. I was riding old British stuff through the 80s. For me the appeal of HD has always been the old school feel. I hate the idea that the computer will compel me to go and see the dealer rather than fix it myself.
It's a brave new world and I don't really like it.☹️
