I know people who have bought police bikes and have no problem with them. The police always around here always have the bikes serviced at the stealers, so their service records should be readily available. That is a lot more than you will find out about most used bikes you buy.
I have a 2005 FLHPI and totally enjoy it. I wouldn't ditch the hockey pucks on the bags, very easy to open when stopped at a light even with gloves on. I dessed mine up with chrome from J&P.
You open them stopped at a light, I open mine just as soon as I finish my cup of coffee even up to around 50 ( I dont like my coffee cup in my holder on the freeway so I finish it up in the first 12 miles [sm=icon_guiness.gif]

they get a woopin in one day of training than most would be willing to put the bike through....ever...
you are 100% correct.... and the reason is that the m/c's are repaired through the city/department. whatever damage occurs gets fixed.
youll see some clutches burnt, some rear brakes shot and some engine guards with rash---- and ALOT of floor boards worn to a razor sharp edge..... but when a motorcycle is issued to an officer- theyre taken care of as if they bought them.
alot of pride goes into riding a police wheel.
having said that- i cant say that i 'would' or 'wouldnt' buy a used police wheel. even with low mileage- it could be beat to hell.... a used police wheel is the same as a used civilian wheel- if it was taken care of properly- itll take care of you.
we have a full time harley tech employed by the city... our scoots are well maintained...and i surely treated mine very well BUT in the normal day to day police use.... there are used a harder than the typical civilian....not to mention we run em 365 days a year... snow/salt/rain/ice you bid a bike you ride a bike...
floor boards with razor edges.... hahaha i had to request a new set, i was cutting the heck outta my boots on em... ahhhh i miss motor
I got myself a 01 FLHTPI cheap enough and did lots of work on it to make it mine. Love the bike and I got all service records with it and dealer was great about filling me in on things as well. I learned alot of thiings about Harleys along the way by trial and error and by the fine people of this site.
10-4! In fact the Sgt. over there will tell all out of state motor units that "YOU are CEREMONIAL ONLY" during Police Week. My jurisdiction is the host and always are the primary "working motors" because of the experience of riding within the DC area.

have to disagree with you. Most departments will keep motors as spares for quite awhile. Those spares are ridden extremly hard because they are not assign to anyone. They are typically used during motor school traing, where they are dropped about a couple hundred time's a day [LOL] Some departments have in-house officers who do the routine stuff [i.e clutch's, brakes, change the fluids, or simple stuff] the point I'm trying to make, not every broken - damaged part is replaced. We have sone with the inner fairing mounts [vertical] that have been zipped tied. But with out a doubt, there is definitly some type of electrical issue going on because of all the after market emergency lights. just a little insight from experience.

For what they are to convert the price would have to be substantially lower. Your within 3k of an 07 with no miles and warranty. Then like someone said you take a huge cut when you sell. There are so many used bikes with low miles and extras it doesn't seem like such a deal.
HI DIRTYHARRY,
LAST YEAR I BOUGHT A NEW (0 MILES)2006 POLICE BIKE. I DESIGNED AND MADE A SET OF PERFORATED POLISHED STAINLESS STEEL WITH WIRE ROPE EDGING. HAVE SOLD 6 PAIRS LOCALLY. IF INTERESTED? I WILL SHOOT YOU A PIC.
