I need the radio (cassette is fine cause i hook up the Ipod) for my bike (2002 EG standard) and on Ebay there are several ones for 98-up models (part# 76164-98). Someone has told me that this being a model from 98 does not have very good quality sound and that the new ones are better. Can anybody tell me if they've had both and if there is such a big "notable" diffrence.
Thanks,
Cris
My buddy asked about the new '06 radio being hooked up in his '04 and was told from the dealer it can't be done. Not sure if they were telling him the truth or what.
I was told the same thing. The 06 radio won't go in the 04 because of so many wiring changes on the 06. I am happy with my 04 radio. I am going to put the hogtunes speakers in it and then I will be more than happy.
I have Vance and Hines Oval Slip-Ons and I still hear the radio just fine. I want a little more sound so I am changing the speakers.
Sorry, i think i didn't explain myself well. I know that the new "advanced sound" Harman Kardon radios are way better, but i wanted to know if there was a difference between the 98-2001 models and those from 2002-2004.
Thanks again, Cris
Other than upgrading to a cd I don't know of any difference. However you might want to think about a sony head unit and one of those retro kits from biketronics. That way you could hard wire your ipod into the back and even maybe control it from your handlebar controls. All in all you would probably come out with a better radio and more money left in your bank.
ABSOLUTELY......DO NOT BUY A FACTORY RADIO WHEN YOU CAN GET A MUCH BETTER UNIT , AND GET THE KIT TO UTILIZE THE HANDLEBAR CONTROLS.........BEEN THROUGH 2 RADIOS ON AN 04 ROAD GLIDE THE FACTORY ONES ARE NOTHING SPECIAL, AND OVERPRICED
Guys, thanks for all your info. I have a question regarding the Biketronics RetroRadio set-up....by using a Sony unit won't there be problems when it rains and the unit gets wet since i don't think they are made for outside applications. Is Biketronics the only one that makes HD compatible products?
Thanks,
Cris
If you choose the sony you can get a weather guard for it, basically a sealed cover. That will only be a problem if the bike is sitting in the rain and during washing. I know my radio doesn't even get damp when im riding in a downpour. As far as I know biketronics is the only place to make it so you can use the factory handlebar controls. You can always use something else but then you would have to reach up to control the radio.
I looked on ebay after I read your post and there seem to be a few deals on factory HD radios but if you are looking for a true upgrade Iwould recomend the sony units. I am on the fence as to wether I should replace mine, I have the CB in mine and although I have never used it and dont even have the mic for it I kind of like the extra insurance.
